چکیده
Medicines and medical devices containing animal-derived ingredients are frequently used on patients without their informed consent, despite a significant proportion of wanting to know if an product is going be in care. Here, I outline three arguments for why this practice wrong. First, argue that using products consent undermines respect autonomy. Second, it risks causing nontrivial psychological harm. Third, morally inconsistent patients’ dietary preferences then use medicines or them consent. address several anticipated objections conclude the continued failure issue ethical blind spot warrants applying principles autonomy consistently.

Why We Should Do Without Concepts
Machery (2009) has proposed that the notion of ‘concept’ ought to be eliminated from the theoretical vocabulary of psychology. I raise three questions about his argument: (1) Is there a meaningful distinction between concepts and background knowledge? (2) Do we need to discard the hybrid view? (3) Are there really categories of things in the world that are the basis for concepts? Although I arg...
متن کامل(Why) should we require consent to participation in research?
It is widely accepted that informed consent is a requirement of ethical biomedical research. It is less clear why this is so. As an argumentative strategy the article asks whether it would be legitimate for the state to require people to participate in research. This article argues that the consent requirement cannot be defended by appeal to any simple principle, such as not treating people mer...
متن کاملWhy We Should Stop Creating Pets with Lives Worth Living
Pedigreed breeding often leads to severe health problems for, say, those dogs who exist as a result of the practice. It is also the case that virtually all of those unhealthy animals would not exist at all if it were not for the practice of pedigreed breeding. If those animals have lives worth living, then it follows that they are not harmed by the practice—assuming that a life worth living is ...
متن کاملIntrons in UTRs: why we should stop ignoring them.
Although introns in 5'- and 3'-untranslated regions (UTRs) are found in many protein coding genes, rarely are they considered distinctive entities with specific functions. Indeed, mammalian transcripts with 3'-UTR introns are often assumed nonfunctional because they are subject to elimination by nonsense-mediated decay (NMD). Nonetheless, recent findings indicate that 5'- and 3'-UTR intron stat...
